Stickers are an important part of a game’s box – believe it or not. For example, if you see an EA sticker on a game, you’re going to immediately assume that the game will have some form of quality. Similarly, if you see a “MyFirstHappyDay” sticker on a box, you’re going to have your doubts. So what do you assume when you see a Disney sticker on a game?

I’ll tell you.

Disney have just made another addition to the jump, pull trick, land, repeat, win collection, which already contains very popular, established titles such as the Tony Hawk’s series, Skate, … you know the rest. Don’t let these details put you off, however. Remember, everyone thought a Final Fantasy inspired RPG with Disney characters was a terrible idea, but Kingdom Hearts was, with lack of better words, awesome.

Can you see where I’m going with this?

Pure brings us to the world of ATVs, in a land of outstanding offroad scenery. I was honestly speechless when I fired up the demo and saw, in full HD, 16 bikes on a flawless looking track, with so much environmental detail, and no slow-down at all. Objectively, we have a few different game modes here, which ultimately come down to either winning a race or scoring the most points. Okay, so we can admit that Disney haven’t necessarily reinvented the game style, or brought anything new to it either, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been refined and polished to perfection.

Pure is difficult enough to present you with a challenge where you have to consider a small amount of tactics, without being infuriatingly difficult, or painfully dull. It has options for ATV customisation available, but they’re not compulsary. If you just want the game to build a quad for you, at the touch of a button, it’ll choose the best setup and randomise the colours, done and done. If you want to go into part names and details, that’s there to play with as well, which is nice.  Vehical statistics really make a difference, too; they’re not just trivial numbers. By all means take your ATV that is setup for high scores around the short circuit race track, but don’t be expecting a first place result.

Through and through I am thoroughly surprised and amazed by Pure. Disney have done a fantastic job, and nobody would have expected it of them. If you’re looking for a slightly challenging game, covered in tasty graphics sauce, that is a bit of a change from skateboarding or motorbiking, check it out. There are plenty of features, a handful of game modes, a nice collection of tracks, and the online play works as one would hope. You won’t be disappointed.
